Questions, answered.

Everything about installing Manhwave, credits, billing, translation quality and privacy. If your question is missing, the contact form is one click away.

Getting started

Install, first translation, basics.

What is Manhwave?

A Chrome extension that translates manga, manhwa and webtoons directly on the site you are reading. It finds the speech bubbles, reads the text, translates it and letters the translation back into the bubbles, in one of 26 languages.

How do I install it?

Open the extension in the Chrome Web Store, click Add to Chrome and confirm. The Manhwave icon appears in your toolbar. Pin it for quick access. No account is needed for your first 20 credits.

How do I translate a page?

Open a chapter, click the Manhwave icon, choose your target language and click Translate. Bubbles are translated as they come into view while you scroll at your own pace. Use the extension controls to pause or return to the original view.

Which browsers and devices are supported?

Desktop Chrome on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS. Chromium-based browsers such as Edge and Brave generally work too. There is no mobile version yet: Chrome on phones does not support extensions. The website itself works on every device.

Do I need an account?

Not to try it. You get 20 welcome credits without signing up. Confirming your email adds 80 more and lets you buy a plan. Signing in works with a link sent to your email, so there is no password to remember.

Credits and plans

How translation capacity works.

What is a credit?

Credits measure translation capacity. Each page you translate uses credits in proportion to how much text it contains, so a dialogue-heavy manga page costs more than a webtoon panel with one line. Your balance is shown in the extension before you translate. As a rule of thumb, a chapter uses about 10 credits: the free 100 credits cover roughly 10 chapters, Starter roughly 100 a month and Plus roughly 300.

Which plan should I pick?

Starter (1,000 credits, about 100 chapters a month) suits a few series read weekly. Plus (3,000 credits, about 300 chapters) is for a growing reading list. Unlimited is for binge readers and has no credit cap, subject to fair use. All plans include all 26 languages, every supported site, saved translations and font controls. See the pricing section for current prices.

Do unused credits roll over?

No. Monthly credits reset at the start of each billing month, including on annual plans. Welcome credits are a one-time gift and do not renew.

Does re-reading cost credits?

No. Translations you generated are saved to your account and open for free. A different target language or a fresh translation of the same page counts as new work.

What does fair use on Unlimited mean?

Unlimited is meant for one person reading at a human pace, even a very fast one. Automated or bulk translation, account sharing and feeding translations into other products are not covered. If usage looks like that, we may slow down or pause new translations and get in touch. Normal heavy reading is never a problem.

Billing

Payments, renewals, cancellation and refunds.

How do I pay?

Through Stripe, by card. Prices are in US dollars; taxes may be added at checkout depending on your country. We never see your full card number.

Monthly or annual?

Annual billing costs 33% less than paying month by month. Credits still renew monthly on annual plans, so the reading experience is identical.

Can I cancel?

Yes, at any time, with no fee. Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep your plan until the end of the period you already paid for.

Can I get a refund?

Consumers in the EU, EEA and UK can withdraw within 14 days of purchase; we refund the price minus a proportionate amount for credits already used. We also refund duplicate charges and charges made after a confirmed cancellation. Full details are in the Terms of Service.

Can I switch plans?

Yes. Upgrades take effect immediately and the difference is charged pro rata. Downgrades take effect at the next renewal.

Translation and features

What to expect on the page.

Which languages can it translate from and into?

Sources: Korean, Japanese, Chinese and English are the main ones. Targets: 26 languages including English, Polish, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Thai, Turkish and Japanese.

How good are the translations?

They are produced by language models tuned for dialogue, with the whole chapter treated as one story so names and tone stay consistent. They are not official translations and can occasionally miss a joke or a nuance. The original text of every bubble is one hover away.

Does it cover sound effects and drawn lettering?

By design, no. Sound effects, logos and credits are left exactly as drawn. Only speech bubbles, captions and system panels are translated.

Can I change the font or text size?

Yes. Pick Manga, Comic or Classic lettering and adjust the text scale in the extension. Changes apply to the current page without translating again.

Does it change the website or the images?

No. Translations are drawn as an overlay in your browser. The site, the images and the chapter files are untouched. Switch the extension off and the page is exactly as it was.

Which sites does it work on?

Any site that shows comic pages as images: MangaDex, MangaFire, WEBTOON, Bato, Asura, MangaPark, MangaSee, Reaper Scans, Tappytoon and many more. There is no fixed list. Results can vary with page layout and how images load, and we adapt to site changes over time.

Privacy

What leaves your browser and what does not.

Do you see what I read?

No. Bubble detection and text recognition run on your device, so page images never reach us. Only the extracted text and your target language are sent for translation. We do not build a reading history or sell data.

Where are my translations stored?

In your account, so you can re-open them without spending credits, and in your browser’s extension storage. Deleting your account removes the saved translations.

Can I delete my data?

Yes. Email us from the address linked to your account and we delete the account, saved translations and remaining credits within 30 days. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

Troubleshooting

When something does not work.

Nothing happens when I click Translate

Reload the page and try again. Make sure the chapter images have loaded and that you are on a page with comic images, not a series overview. If the site opened before you installed the extension, a reload is required once.

Some bubbles were skipped

Very small, low-contrast or hand-drawn lettering can be missed by detection. Scroll slowly so images fully load before translation runs. If a whole site is consistently skipped, send us the URL through the contact page.

The translation looks cut off or too small

Increase the text scale in the extension or switch to a more condensed lettering style such as Manga. Text shrinks automatically only when it would otherwise not fit its bubble.

My credits did not renew

Credits renew at the start of each billing month. If a payment failed, paid features pause until it succeeds; check the email from Stripe. If the payment went through and credits are still missing, email us with your account address.

How do I report a bug?

Use the contact form and include the site URL, the series and chapter, your browser version and a screenshot if possible. That usually lets us reproduce the issue the same day.

Still curious?

We read every message and usually reply within one working day.
