Why an extension

Why an extension beats uploading pages.

Upload-based translators ask you to leave your reader, save each page, drop it into a website and wait. For a 70-panel webtoon episode that is 70 round trips. Even tools that accept whole chapter files need you to find those files first, and they still return a separate document you read somewhere else.

A manga translator extension removes the round trip. The chapter you have open is the input and the output. You keep the reader you like, its chapter list, your bookmarks and your place on the page. Translation becomes something the page does, not something you do to the page.

Manhwave takes that one step further than other extensions. Most of them send the page images to a server and are limited to a list of supported sites. Manhwave finds and reads the bubbles on your device, so it works on any reader that shows images, and the images never leave your computer.

It also treats your reading like reading. The extension never scrolls for you, never prefetches chapters and only translates the pages you actually load. Turn it on, read, turn it off with one click.

How it works

Install. Click. Read.

Thirty seconds from the Chrome Web Store to your first translated page.

STEP 01

Install.

Add Manhwave from the Chrome Web Store and pin the icon. No account is needed for your first 20 credits; confirming your email adds 80 more.

STEP 02

Click Translate.

Open a chapter on any manga or manhwa site, click the Manhwave icon, choose your target language and press Translate.

STEP 03

Read.

Bubbles are translated as they come into view. Hover any line to see the original. Use the same controls to pause or return to the original page.

Features

What the extension does for you.

Any site, no list

Reads the images on the page rather than a site-specific feed, so new readers and small scanlation sites work without an update.

One click on, one click off

Toggle translation from the toolbar. The site, its images and files are never modified.

Nothing uploaded

Bubble detection, OCR and artwork cleanup run in the extension. Only the extracted text is sent for translation.

Lettering controls

Choose Manga, Comic or Classic lettering and adjust text size. Changes apply to the current page without translating again.

Saved translations

Every translated chapter is kept in your account. Re-reading is free and instant.

Reads at your pace

Pages are translated only as you load them. No auto-scroll, no prefetching, no surprises on your credit balance.

FAQ

Extension questions.

Which browsers does the manga translator extension support?
Desktop Chrome on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS. Chromium browsers such as Edge and Brave generally work as well. Mobile Chrome does not support extensions, so there is no phone version yet.
Which sites does the extension work on?
Any site that displays manga or manhwa pages as images. MangaDex, MangaFire, WEBTOON, Bato, Asura, MangaPark, MangaSee, Reaper Scans, Tappytoon and many more work today. There is no fixed list, because the extension reads the images on the page.
Do I have to upload pages?
No. That is the point of an extension. The chapter is translated where it is, while you scroll. Nothing is saved, uploaded or downloaded, and the page images never leave your computer.
What permissions does it need?
The extension needs to read the pages you open so it can find the comic images, and to store your settings and saved translations locally. It does not read your browsing history and does not run on pages until you turn it on.
Does it slow down my browser?
The detection and OCR models run in a background worker and are cached after the first use, so the first translation takes a little longer and later ones are quick. Pages are translated only as you load them; the extension never scrolls or prefetches on its own.
How much does it cost?
20 credits free without signup, 80 more after email confirmation. Plans start at $4.99 a month with 1,000 credits, about 100 chapters, 33% less on annual billing. Re-reading a translated chapter is free.
